Marilva Berrenstein zal deelnemen aan de groepsexpositie in het CBK Amsterdam Zuidoost. Zij zal samen met andere kunstenaars enkele van schilderijen tentoonstellen.

Een expositie over de beeldvorming van het lichaam van kleur met actuele beeldende kunst die de koloniale witte blik afwendt en ontmantelt.De kunstenaars in deze expositie geven op een unieke manier vorm aan het menselijk lichaam en tonen wat het is om mens te zijn. Voorop staat hun artistieke uitdrukking van een gedeelde menselijkheid die verder kijkt dan de kleur van de huid. Deze expositie belicht dit dilemma van hoe de voorstelling van het lichaam zich zwart aftekent tegen de vermeende neutraliteit van de witte blik. Diens gekleurde projectie reduceert lichamen tot de oppervlakkigheid van huidskleur. De kunstwerken in deze expositie, daarentegen, verzetten zich tegen deze reductie en herstellen het lichaam van kleur naar een menselijke maat.
Coloured [projections on] skin is onderdeel van NEXT. NEXT is een meerjarig programma van CBK Zuidoost waarbij de instelling specifiek curatoren van kleur de gelegenheid geeft een eigen idee te ontwikkelen en te realiseren. Zo doen ze ervaring op en vergroten zij hun netwerk. NEXT wil zo een nieuwe generatie curatoren een plek geven en bijdragen aan de verdere diversificatie van het kunstenveld.
Over de curator: Antropoloog Lisette van den Berg is gespecialiseerd in visuele en materiële cultuur, museologie en koloniaal erfgoed. Aan de hand van de-koloniale theorie verkent zij de continuïteit en emotionele impact van het koloniale verleden op het heden.

An exhibition about the perception of the body of color with contemporary visual art that deflects the colonial white gaze on bodies of colour.
The artists in this exhibition give shape to the human body in unique ways and show what it is like to be human. Upfront is their artistic expression of shared humanity that looks beyond the colour of skin. This exhibition sheds light on this dilemma of how the representation of the body blackens against the supposed neutrality of the white gaze. Its coloured projection reduces bodies to the superficiality of their skin. In contrast, the art in this exposition resists this curtailment and restores the body of colour with substance.
Coloured [projections on] skin is part of Next. Next is a multi-year program directed by CBK Zuidoost that specifically offers curators of colour the opportunity to develop and realise an original concept. They gain experience and expand their network. Next aims to support a new generation of curators who can contribute to the diversification of the art scene.
About the curator: Anthropologist Lisette van den Berg’s speciality is in visual and material culture, museology and colonial heritage. Using decolonial theory, she explores the continuity and emotional impact of the colonial past on the present.
